    Straight Answers About ProtectSmartly

Nine of the questions people ask us most — about the SOS button, live location, offline behaviour, pricing, and who the app is really for.

    What is an SOS app?

An SOS app is a mobile safety app that turns your phone into a one-tap emergency button. When you press it, the app sends your live GPS location, your identity and a distress message to the trusted contacts you set up in advance — so help knows exactly where to go and what's happening.

How does an SOS app work?

You install ProtectSmartly, add up to five trusted contacts (family members, close friends or a supervisor) and place the SOS button on your home screen. In an emergency, you hold the button for two seconds. The app captures your GPS location, packages it with your identity and medical info, and delivers it over data — or by SMS if data isn't available — to every trusted contact at the same time.

What happens after pressing the SOS button?

You get a 10-second cancel window (in case of accidental taps). If you don't cancel, an alert with your live GPS, address, timestamp and a live tracking link goes out to every trusted contact you chose. They can watch your location update in real time until you mark yourself safe.

Can my family see my location?

Only when you choose to share it. Location sharing is off by default. You can turn it on for a specific trip, a whole evening or continuously — and turn it off at any time. Family members see a shared map only for the moments you decide.

    Does ProtectSmartly work without internet?

Partially, yes. If your phone loses data mid-alert, ProtectSmartly falls back to SMS so your alert still goes out. When the phone reconnects, queued alerts and location updates send automatically. GPS itself doesn't need the internet, only the delivery of the message does.

    Is ProtectSmartly free?

Yes. The free plan includes the SOS button, live location sharing, check-ins, up to five trusted contacts and a personal medical info card — real safety features, not a trial. Premium is optional at $1.99/month and removes monthly caps while extending location history.

Is it suitable for women traveling alone?

Very much so. ProtectSmartly is a favorite among women who commute late, travel solo or work in the field. The SOS is silent by default (no sound, no flash), live sharing can be turned on just for the walk or ride, and every alert reaches multiple trusted contacts at once.

Can I use it for my children?

Yes. Kids get a giant, obvious SOS button on their home screen and simple check-ins for school and playdates. Parents get honest arrival alerts without secret tracking — kids can see when sharing is on, which is what makes the habit last past age twelve.

Is it useful for elderly family members?

Absolutely. A single tap tells family that mom or dad is home from the doctor or the pharmacy. If something goes wrong, one long-press sends location and medical info to every trusted contact — no phone menus, no unlocking, no small buttons to hunt for.
